Centerra to lay off 63 security personnel at federal courthouses in CT

A company that provides security officers for federal courthouses in Connecticut has announced that its contract with the U.S. Marshals Service will expire Sept. 30, leaving 63 employees out of their jobs.

Centerra submitted a letter to the state Department of Labor under the Worker Ajdumstnet and Retraining Notification Act informing the agency of the anticipated layoffs.

All 63 employees working for the U.S. Marshals Service for the 2nd Circuit Court in Connecticut will be affected. The positions include 59 court security officers, one district supervisor, two lead court security officers and one senior lead court security officer.

The employees work at five locations: Abraham Ribicoff Federal Building at 450 Main St., Hartford; Brien McMahon Federal Building at 915 Lafayette Blvd., Bridgeport;  Richard C. Lee U.S. Courthouse at 141 Church St., New Haven; and two facilities in the Connecticut Financial Center at 157 Church St., New Haven: U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Connecticut on the 18th floor and the U.S. Social Security Administration’s Office of Disability Adjudication and Review on the 22nd floor.

A representative of the Association of Court Security Officers of Connecticut, the union that represents the employees, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Centerra is a subsidiary of global risk management and security company Constellis, which is based in Herndon, Virginia. Constellis also has a physical presence in Connecticut with a training facility in Salem.
