Mission: The Center for Children’s Advocacy is an innovative non-profit law firm dedicated to ensuring that Connecticut’s poor and most vulnerable children receive appropriate education, health, safety and basic care services.
Thousands of poor children in Connecticut suffer abuse and neglect, have medical needs that are not treated and have no access to necessary educational supports. These children deserve the chance to live healthy and productive lives.
CCA attorneys provide individual legal representation for more than 500 Connecticut children each year in Hartford and Fairfield counties, and work to improve systems’ response to the needs of thousands of poor children each year.
Background: Founded in 1997, CCA is the only legal services agency in Connecticut that advocates across such a wide range of issues. The center works to ensure that the needs of poor children are met and acts as a watchdog to ensure that children’s legal rights are protected.
As the economic crisis deepens, with resulting cuts in essential services for poor children, CCA’s work is more important than ever. The economic crisis is seriously impacting CCA, as it is so many nonprofits. Foundation grants and individual donations account for 90 percent of the organization’s operating budget and have been seriously diminished. CCA remains committed to improving the lives of poor children and is actively seeking donations to fill the funding gap.
