Fairfield was the only Connecticut county to gain population from July 2013 to July 2014, the U.S. Census Bureau said this week.
The Gold Coast gained 3,319 residents over that period, an increase of 0.4 percent. All seven other Connecticut counties lost ground.
It wasn’t enough to counteract the rest of the state’s losses. In total, Connecticut’s population fell by a net 2,664 people over that period, or 0.1 percent, to 3,596,677. The decline came after gains in the comparable 2012 and 2013 periods, according to Census data.
As a percentage, the largest population losses last year were in Litchfield and New Haven counties. Meanwhile, Hartford County lost 863 people, a decline of 0.1 percent.
