Census: CT population flat from 2016 to 2017

Connecticut has seen a slight population uptick in 2017 compared with a year ago, buoyed by immigrants, according to the latest federal census data.

As of July 1, 2017, Connecticut had a population of 3,588,184, about 499 people more than the 3,587,685 recorded by July 1 of 2016, the U.S. Census Bureau notes in new data released this week.

More than 22,270 residents left for other states, but there were also more than 17,700 immigrants coming to the state, the data shows, and about 5,000 more births than deaths.
