To accommodate its growing nursing program, Central Connecticut State University on Wednesday marked the opening of a $1.1 million training facility on its New Britain campus.
The nearly 4,800-square-foot Nursing Learning Center, located in CCSU’s Copernicus Hall, has 10 new offices, an expanded learning laboratory and six simulation rooms containing high-tech training manikins.
The simulators can help train nurses to monitor heart rate and blood pressure, among other things, CCSU said.
CCSU has more than 300 nursing students. Its new teaching space is nearly three times larger than the nursing program’s previous space, in Barnard Hall.
“These changes will open the nursing program up to more students, and having more students will allow Central to help people who don’t have access to medical care,” CCSU President Zulma R. Toro said in a statement. “This will enable us to offer additional free wellness clinics and make an even bigger impact on our community.”
The university offers two types of undergraduate nursing programs as well as a master’s program for nursing in hospice and palliative care.
