Freda, entering his sixth term as the town’s first selectman, was elected to the year-long post at CCM’s recent 2019 statewide convention at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket. His term as CCM president begins Jan. 1.

Freda served as CCM’s first vice president in 2019 under former president and Waterbury Mayor Neil O’Leary.

CCM also elected Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin, the organization’s second vice president in 2019, to fill the first vice president post in 2020.

Other officers elected to CCM’s board of directors include New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker, New London Mayor Michael Passero and Torrington Mayor Elinor Carbone, among others.

Greater Hartford officials that were re-elected to the board include East Hartford Mayor Marcia Leclerc, New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart, Avon Town Manager Brandon Robertson and Manchester General Manager Scott Shanley.

CCM Executive Director Joe DeLong said the organization is “fortunate” to have an experienced first selectman like Freda to lead next year’s board.

“He is well-respected on both sides of the political aisle at both the state and local levels and will play a key role in forging consensus on important state-local issues during the 2020 General Assembly session,” DeLong said in a news release.

Founded in 1966, CCM calls itself Connecticut’s largest nonpartisan organization of municipal leaders with members representing all 169 towns and cities in the state.

CCM is governed by its board, which is elected by the member municipalities.

The organization in the last year has come out with a number of reports citing the local impacts of Connecticut’s soon-to-be $15 minimum wage and rising property tax rates.
