The Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology Inc. will provide small and medium-sized manufacturers will hands-on experience in electrical discharge machining, thanks to an agreement announced Wednesday with Illinois equipment provider Sodick, Inc.
Sodick will provide two of its electrical discharge machining machines to the CCAT center in East Hartford in order to familiarize Connecticut companies with the new technique.
Electrical discharge machining burns through materials, rather than grinding or cutting materials with tools.
Having the machines at CCAT will help make Connecticut manufacturers more competitive, said Elliot Ginsberg, CCAT president and chief executive.
