CCAT taking applications for manufacturing technical assistance

The Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology said it is taking applications through the end of the year for manufacturing technical assistance for as many as 15 companies.

The CCAT program, which is backed by state funding, will award up to $75,000 per applicant selected, though many of the awards would be for less than that number.

CCAT is looking for manufacturers facing process-development challenges on specific projects. Projects must be ready to begin by February and must take no longer than six months.

Companies that have fewer than 100 employees and are in good standing with the state are eligible for the program, which offers staff expertise and the use of equipment, including a high-end 3D printer that the not-for-profit purchased in June for $400,000.

Recipients are expected to match the grant amount with cash or in-kind support.

CCAT said its focus is on CNC programs, 3-D printing and precision machining.

The program is headed into its third year. This year, CCAT awarded grants to SolVilla Energy to develop tooling and plastic components for a solar-energy roofing system and to LambdaVision to develop a retinal surgical tool.
