CBIA survey: CT businesses continue to wring hands over state economy

Connecticut executives continue to cite the state’s economy as their top concern, according to the Connecticut Business & Industry Association’s annual survey of businesses.

This year’s survey found that businesses want the state to reduce taxes and regulation, increase support of trade schools, and reduce the cost of living as a strategy to attract more skilled workers.

New technology and employee training remains the first and second biggest investment priorities for companies.

The second biggest concern for companies remains the U.S. economy. In third place is the cost of health care, which overtook last year’s third biggest concern, the tax burden.

The number of companies considering moving or shifting production to another state in the next five years remained flat at approximately 21 percent.

It was CBIA’s first annual survey since launching its CT20x17 campaign, which calls on lawmakers to take measures that will improve Connecticut’s place in business rankings, such as those issued annually by CNBC.
