Carrier to sell bus air condition unit for $32.1M

Carrier Corp. in Farmington said Tuesday it has agreed to sell its unit that makes air conditioners for buses in the United States and Canada to Mobile Climate Control, The Associated Press reports.

Mobile Climate Control is a subsidiary of Ratos AB, a Swedish investment firm. Ratos values the deal at about $32.1 million.

Carrier, a unit of Hartford’s United Technologies Corp., makes a range of products from heating to refrigeration. Its North America bus air-conditioning business, based in York, Pa., had sales of about $60 million last year.

After the deal closes, which is expected to happen within 30 days, production will move to Mobile Climate Control from Carrier’s manufacturing facility in Athens, Ga.

Carrier said the deal is part of its plan to focus on its core businesses. Carrier last year sold its Sutrak bus air-conditioning business, which had operations outside the U.S. and Canada.
