Carrier Gets Nevada Deal

Farmington-based Carrier Corp.’s Noresco division has landed a major contract from the Nevada Department of Corrections to undertake energy saving improvements in four buildings, company officials said.

The contract is worth $14 million overall, according to a statement from Noresco Vice President and General Manager Randy Clark. The agreement includes work at buildings encompassing more than 1.5 million square feet in three cities, Clark said. The key projects involve lighting system upgrades, new building control systems, upgrading existing building automation systems, and completion of a well water heat exchange piping, he said.

“These will create energy savings to fund replacement of aged and problematic systems, such as heat pumps, kitchen hood controls, and water softeners,” Clark said.

The four sites involved include Southern Desert Correctional Center, High Desert State Prison, Lovelock Correctional Center, and the Northern Nevada Correctional Center, according to Clark.

“The savings realized from reduced energy consumption will pay for equipment investment, installation, related operations, and maintenance and financing for more than 15 years,” he said.

In addition to producing an annual saving of more than $1.5 million in utility and operational costs, the project is also expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and other environmental pollution equivalent to removing 3,100 cars from the road, according to Clark.

The Noresco operation, based in Westborough, Mass., has been part of Carrier since November when Carrier corporate parent United Technologies Corp. acquired the company.

Established in 1984, Noresco has done energy efficiency and related projects aimed at reducing energy and water consumption for a variety of customers including federal, state, and local governments, as well as schools, hospitals, utilities, business offices, and factories.
