Farmington-based Carrier Corp. announced today it will discontinue manufacturing and marketing its Tyler line of food-store refrigeration equipment in North America and close a Michigan plant.
Meantime, Carrier said Tyler Refrigeration’s five branches and other assets are being sold to rival refrigeration-equipment maker Hill PHOENIX Inc. of Conyers, Ga.
Tyler and Hill PHOENIX market chilled- and frozen-food display cases to supermarkets and other retailers.
Production at Carrier’s plant in Niles, Mich., will wind down during the year and eventually end as existing customer orders are fulfilled, the company said.
Carrier will continue to market food refrigeration products overseas, particularly in Europe, where it is more successful, said Philippe Delpech, president, Carrier Commercial Refrigeration.
