Veteran Hartford parking executive Carey E. Redd II is the new head of the New London Parking Authority, effective immediately.
New London City Council approved Mayor Michael Passero’s appointment of Redd as the parking agency’s director, the city announced Thursday. Redd reports to Passero.
Redd previously was associate director of the Hartford Parking Authority.
“Carey Redd brings a wealth of experience, professionalism and parking know-how to the newly created post that will redefine the Parking Authority in support of economic development and visitation in the City of New London,” Passero said in a statement.
Redd oversees administration of New London’s non-metered and regulated parking spaces, including the Fort Trumbull Municipal Development, Shaw Street and Pequot Avenue North Parking Zones. He also is responsible for operation and maintenance of the city’s Water Street Garage, Green Street and Tilley Street Surface Lots.
A Hartford resident, Redd is president of the New England Parking Council and is a certified administrator of public policy, a designation awarded in 2010 by the International Parking Institute in cooperation with the University of Virginia.
In a statement, Redd said the New London Parking Authoritity’s “strategic plan is to provide our residents and visitors affordable, clean, convenient parking citywide that enhances New London’s economic and community development.”
Hartford Parking Authority CEO Eric Boone said that notice of Redd’s vacant slot has been officially posted with the intention of filling it.
