A cannabis retailer is seeking city approval to open a new dispensary at a commercial property on Orange Avenue in West Haven, according to a planning and zoning application.
The proposal calls for the conversion of an existing retail building at 857 Orange Ave. into an adult-use recreational cannabis dispensary.
The applicant is Alpha CT Inc., led by Kepal Patel, who is president of Shangri-La Dispensaries, one of the major multistate cannabis companies operating in Connecticut.
Shangri-La also
recently proposed a new cannabis dispensary in Rocky Hill.
Plans for the West Haven shop show the business would operate daily, with proposed hours of 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays. The applicant expects to employ about five people.
The site currently contains a roughly 5,000-square-foot, single-story building on about 1.15 acres, according to the application.
The applicant said security measures would include surveillance cameras, controlled access points and on-site staff, while deliveries would be handled by employees rather than third-party carriers.
The property is located in a business zone along Orange Avenue, a major commercial corridor, and is surrounded by a mix of retail uses and nearby residential areas. The application states the site meets state and local separation requirements for cannabis establishments.
The project is scheduled for a public hearing by the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission on April 14.
