Cancer care provider: CT patient info could be compromised

A New Jersey-based cancer care group with locations in West Hartford and Manchester said unauthorized access to several employee email accounts has potentially exposed patient health and personal information.

Regional Cancer Care Associates (RCCA), which announced the incident on Tuesday, did not say how many patients could be affected by the breach but did say it’s unaware of any actual access or misuse of any of the information contained in those email accounts.

That included names, treatments, health insurance, diagnoses and prescriptions. RCCA said that “a small subset” of affected individuals had their addresses, social security numbers, driver’s license numbers and payment card information potentially exposed.

RCCA said it has beefed up its tech security and is mailing notices to patients whose information could have been viewed.

It’s also encouraging patients to monitor their credit reports and financial statements for potential identity theft and fraud, and is offering credit and identity monitoring and identity restoration services to potentially impacted individuals.

“The RCCA Group remains committed to safeguarding patient information in its care, and will continue to take proactive steps to enhance data security across the RCCA Group,” the company said in a statement.
