San Francisco solar installer Sunrun announced Thursday it will expand its services into Connecticut, the second California firm to enter the market since 2011.
Sunrun joins SolarCity from San Mateo, Calif. in joining the Connecticut solar industry since the state created the Clean Energy Finance & Investment Authority and developed several programs designed to proliferate solar installations. The creation of CEFIA also led to firms from New Jersey, New York, and Scotland to come to Connecticut, which now has 83 solar installers operating in the state.
Sunrun provides third-party owned solar where it owns, installs, insures, and maintains a solar system for 20 years and then sells the electricity generated to the host property. The company will work with Real Goods Solar and Trinity Solar, which already operate in Connecticut.
The program is designed to proliferate Connecticut solar to include the Zero-emissions Renewable Energy Credit program, which provides funding for larger installations, and the Residential Solar Investment Program, designed for homeowners.
