Calif. REIT takes stake in Alexion HQ

California’s BioMed Realty Trust Inc. said it has invested an undisclosed sum in two life sciences buildings at New Haven’s Downtown Crossing project.

The buildings are 300 George St., which houses Yale operations, and 100 College St., the under-construction headquarters of Cheshire’s Alexion Pharmaceuticals.

The real estate investment trust’s stake in the properties — combined with the continued partnership interest of Winstanley Enterprises— totals $308 million. Winstanley will continue to provide construction and property management for the project.

The state awarded $51 million in assistance to Alexion in 2012 to help with the headquarters move. The company has pledged to add 300 jobs at the site by 2017.
