German specialty chemicals group Altana said it has completed the state-backed expansion of its BYK USA Inc. facility in Wallingford.
The 55,000-square-foot expansion cost approximately $50 million and more than doubles the South Cherry Street facility’s capacity to manufacture additives used in paints, inks and plastics.
State officials announced they would award BYK a $6 million loan in exchange for BYK’s pledge to add 37 jobs to its Wallingford workforce of 97. The state will forgive up to $4 million of the loan if the company meets its job creation pledge.
Altana has 18 production facilities across the country, with more than 1,000 employees.
