Butterfly partners with Petco on veterinary ultrasound

A Guilford-based digital health company has partnered with Petco to help Fido and Fluffy lead healthier lives.

Butterfly Network, Inc., the creator behind the Butterfly iQ+, the world’s first handheld ultrasound imaging device for humans, offers a similar portable device for pets.

The device, dubbed the Butterfly iQ+Vet, will be deployed to Petco’s network of 200 full-service veterinary hospitals at Petco care centers nationwide. Butterfly Network is the first U.S. ultrasound imaging provider to collaborate with the health and wellness company for pets.

Petco’s Chief Veterinarian Whitney Miller said the availability of ultrasound imaging will help animals.

“The single-probe, full-body technology of the Butterfly iQ+ Vet system will arm our veterinarians with ultrasound imaging that will help speed diagnoses and improve health outcomes, ultimately delivering the best possible care to every pet, as well as the families who love them.”

Butterfly Network’s Chief Strategy & Business Development Officer Darius Shahida said the device will be beneficial on many levels to veterinarians and their furry clients.

“With the Butterfly iQ+ Vet, seeing is knowing,” Shahida said. “Butterfly iQ+ Vet gives practitioners the ability to make more informed, better decisions, earlier in care.”

Butterfly iQ+ Vet is the second-generation of Butterfly’s veterinary ultrasound device and brings sharper imaging, a new procedural guidance tool and hardware improvements.
