Busy NY-based developer Vessel proposes 75-unit apartment building with 23 affordable units in Fairfield County

A New York-based developer that has been active in Connecticut is proposing to build a 75-unit, five-story apartment building in Bethel that will offer affordable housing, according to an application filed with the town.

Vessel Technologies, doing business as Vessel RE Holdings, plans to construct the 47,445-square-foot structure on two properties at 48 and 50 Nashville Road. The adjacent parcels consist of two single-family homes on a combined 4.37-acre parcel, according to property records.

The parcel is appraised at $726,900 and assessed at $508,830.

The development would have 88 parking spaces and 23 affordable units under the state’s 8-30g affordable housing statute, the application said.

Vessel anticipates building 66 one-bedroom, 600-square-foot  apartments, and nine two-bedroom apartments ranging in size from 900 to 1,150 square feet.

“The new building, designed by Vessel, prioritizes sustainability and affordability for current and future residents,” the application said. “The new building will be centrally located on the property, and surrounded by 2.18 acres of existing wooded area, which will remain.”

An email sent to Vesel Technologies, which is under contract to buy the land from owner Francis J. Oldham IV, of Bethel, was not immediately returned.

The town’s Planning and Zoning Commission plans to hold a public hearing on this application at a future meeting.

The commission is reviewing two other 8-30g proposals by Bethel developer TD & Sons to build a 20-unit apartment building at 53 Taylor Ave., and a six-unit apartment building at 72 Reservoir Road by developer Michael Dilorio, according to its website.
