Businesses rank CT utilities low

Business customers of Connecticut electric utilities United Illuminating and Connecticut Light & Power don’t think too highly of their power providers.

CL&P and UI ranked near the bottom of 2011 J.D. Power & Associates Electric Utility Business Customer Satisfaction Study, which was released on Friday. The study examined 17,000 businesses spending between $500 and $50,000 monthly on electricity, and ranked the utilities on power quality and reliability, billing and payment, corporate citizenship, price, communications and customer service.

UI received a score of 617 out of 1,000. The utility ranked 8th out of 10 companies in the East Region’s midsized company category. The average score for this category was 628.

CL&P, a subsidiary of Harford’s Northeast Utilities, received a score of 616 out of 1,000. The utility ranked 10th out of 13 companies in the East Region’s large company category. The average score for this category was 627.
