Burlington trails reopened after insect infestation

State officials said recreational trails at Sessions Woods Wildlife Management Area in Burlington are open again, following approximately three months of tree removal to manage insect infestations.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), which oversees Sessions Woods, said contractors removed a number of red pines on an eight-acre tract that were dying from an infestation involving southern pine beetles.

DEEP said the wood from the trees will be sold to enhance wildlife projects and educational efforts at the Sessions Woods.
