Building permits for new home construction across Connecticut fell by more than one-third in February, marking the second year-over-year decline of 2021.
There were 240 permits issued during the month, down 35.1% from 370 permits issued during Feb. 2020, according to an analysis of new U.S. Census data by the Department of Economic and Community Development.
The drop follows a smaller decrease in January and was mostly due to fewer multifamily permits being pulled for residential dwellings with five units or more.
Permit activity is down 25% for the first two months of 2021 compared with the same period a year ago.
