Build-out starts for first cannabis retailer in Putnam

Build-out has begun on Putnam’s first adult-use cannabis dispensary, according to developers helping with the project, with the store expected to open toward the end of the year.

Chillax LLC, which names New Jersey resident Niralee Modi as principal, is planning to open its adult-use cannabis retail store at 97 Providence Pike (Rt 44), Putnam, which is anchored by a Tractor Supply Co. storefront. Mark C. D’Addabbo, of MACK V Development, who represented the landlord in the leasing agreement for the site, said Chillax secured approvals from the town in March to begin the build-out.

Chillax will operate more than 3,500 square feet of the shopping center, D’Addabbo said, and the store is expected to open later this year or early 2024.

In addition to Tractor Supply, Big Gary’s Discount Liquors currently operates in the shopping center. There are still two spaces available on the property, D’Addabbo said.

Last year, Chillax submitted the second-most lottery applications — 2,295 across four different licensing categories — to secure licenses for retailer and micro-cultivator operations.

Belinda Sadiku, from Real Estate Advisory Group LLC, served as Chillax’s representative in navigating the leasing process, working with D’Addabbo on the agreement.
