Budr Cannabis opens second dispensary

Budr Cannabis has opened a new retail store in Danbury, the company’s second in the state.

Budr Cannabis officially opened its Danbury adult-use dispensary Tuesday morning at 108 Federal Road, the company’s second location in the state, where it plans to open five retail storefronts by 2025. Budr Cannabis opened its first dispensary in West Hartford in July.

The company, which was launched earlier this year by Carl Tirella and Derrick Gibbs Jr., is an equity venture partnership with a team of social equity entrepreneurs and Chicago-based Green Thumb Industries (GTI), which owns West Haven cannabis cultivation facility Advanced Grow Labs and two Connecticut dispensaries.

An equity joint venture is a business that is at least 50% owned and controlled by an individual or individuals that meet social equity criteria, including having an average household income of less than 300% of the state median household income over the last three tax years, and living in an area disproportionately impacted by drug-related convictions.

The new dispensary is Fairfield County’s first equity joint venture cannabis business, according to the company. Danbury also has a hybrid cannabis retailer, The Botanist, serving both adult-use customers and medical patients.
