A 96-room hotel across from the state Capitol in Hartford has been sold for $6 million, according to a broker familiar with the deal.
JD Hartford LLC purchased the nine-story Capitol Hotel property at 440 Asylum St., according to Victor Antico of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices New England Properties, who brokered the deal.
The buyer plans to renovate and reposition the 1961-vintage building and is exploring potential franchise options, Antico said.
JD Hartford LLC doesn’t list a principal in state business records, but it does list a Springfield, Mass., business address.
The 68,763-square-foot hotel property, which includes a 46-space indoor parking garage and an 11,240-square-foot surface lot, sits on 0.71 acres overlooking Bushnell Park.
The hotel was put up for sale in May, marketed both for its continued hospitality use and as a candidate for multifamily conversion.
Hartford officials have expressed concern about losing hotel inventory to conversions in recent years, noting the city still needs rooms to support convention center activity and downtown visitors.
The property was sold by Shanti CC Hartford LLC, managed by San Diego-based investor Michael S. Goldstein.
