Paul Broadie II received the President’s Award during the WorkPlace annual awards ceremony June 29 at Bridgeport’s Downtown Cabaret Theater.
Broadie is president of Gateway Community College in New Haven and Housatonic Community College in Bridgeport. In announcing the honor, the WorkPlace praised President Broadie for “his leadership and dedication to improving lives and the quality of education in Connecticut.”
The WorkPlace conducts comprehensive planning and coordinates regional workforce development policy and programs to prepare people for careers while strengthening the workforce for employers.
Broadie, who has headed both GCC and HCC for two years, is among the first in the state selected to preside over two colleges. Under his leadership, HCC was selected by the Aspen Institute as one of the top 150 community colleges in the nation for excellence, high achievement and performance. HCC also was named an Achieving the Dream Leader Institution, a distinction it shares with GCC.

The Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants (CTCPA) has elected Dennis W. Cole, CPA of Madison to president for the organization’s 2019-20 activity year. Cole is a partner in the public accounting firm of Beers, Hamerman, Cohen & Burger, PC, with offices in New Haven and Fairfield. He holds a BS in accounting from Villanova University.

Russell M. Sanders
Russell M. Sanders, AIA has been named president of Hoffman Architects in Hamden, succeeding company founder John J. Hoffman, FAIA. Sanders previously was executive vice president and senior director, technical services for the firm, which also has offices in New York and Arlington, Va. Sanders joined the then year-old firm in 1978 upon earning an architecture degree from Ohio State University. Hoffman assumes the role of executive chairman of the architecture and engineering firm.
