Bristol bar loses liquor permit over pandemic rule violations

A Bristol sports bar on Thursday became only the second business in the state to have its liquor permit suspended for violations of COVID-19 pandemic rules.

Legend’s Sports Bar, located at 192 Pine Street in Bristol, was suspended by the state Department of Consumer Protection based on a report from the  Bristol-Burlington Health District about events on the night of Friday, Nov. 13.

Health department agents said they saw 45 patrons inside the establishment after 10 pm, in violation of newly imposed pandemic rules that require that restaurants close by 9:30 and evict customers by 10 pm.

Drinks were also actively being served from the bar at Legends at 10:12 p.m., according the agents, and customers were drinking without consuming food, another violation of state pandemic regulations.

“We expect liquor establishments in our state to take public health and safety seriously,” said DCP Commissioner Michelle H. Seagull.

Several emails had been sent to businesses in the area alerting them to the new pandemic restrictions, according to the Bristol-Burlington Health District.

The Dixwell Social Lounge in Hamden was the first establishment in the state to get its liquor permit suspended for pandemic rule-breaking, on Nov. 6, after verified reports of a crowd of 500 people drinking and dancing without facemasks and social distancing.
