Bridgeport power plant agrees to $300K fine

Connecticut environmental regulators say the operators of a Bridgeport power plant have agreed to pay a nearly $300,000 penalty for allegedly exceeding pollution limits and underreporting emissions.

The Department of Environmental Protection on Monday announced a consent agreement with Bridgeport Energy LLC, which operates two electricity generating turbines in the state’s largest city.

Bridgeport Energy officials didn’t immediately return a message seeking comment Monday.

The DEP said the company has also paid $345,000 in past due emissions fees and spent nearly $1 million on new pollution control equipment to address the violations.
