Bridgeport opens LEED magnet school

The Bridgeport public school system will officially open its Discovery Museum Magnet School on Thursday, a LEED certified building themed around sciences, technology and global education.

More than 500 students will attend the inter-district facility that achieved Silver Certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, program.

The opening will be led by Ted Grabarz of B-Green 2020 Bridgeport, a citywide effort to renovate and build new educational facilities that reduce carbon emissions as part of a plan for a sustainable Bridgeport.

The school is at 4550 Park Ave. Admission is $15 to Thursday’s event, which includes tours and an award presentation.
