Bridgeport hits O&G with blight fines

Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim said Thursday that the city will fine O&G Industries $100 per day for blight violations related to a debris pile located at the Torrington-based construction firm’s aggregate yard in the city.

Ganim said in an announcement that the debris pile, which he referred to as “Mount Trashmore II,” has generated dust that has resulted in “numerous respiratory complaints” from neighborhood residents.

The mayor said the pile has been an eyesore for years, and if O&G fails to clean it up, it could lead to thousands of dollars in fines and a property lien.
An O&G subsidiary is working with FuelCell Energy to build a 63.3-megawatt fuel cell park in Beacon Falls, which it has said would be the world’s largest.

The company has also built power plants in Connecticut and other states.
