Q&A:
What do you do in your current job? I wear many hats as the manager of a startup entity. Most importantly, I enable my team with the right tools to perform their job and create a culture at Quantum that encourages innovation and challenges the recycling status quo.
What are your goals in your current job? Show our partners how recycling their food waste is good for the environment and their wallets. Develop additional food waste recycling infrastructure in Connecticut, and beyond, to divert food waste away from landfills.
What's your biggest passion? My family is my biggest passion, followed very closely by my friends and colleagues. The joy, support and happiness my wife and two children give me is unwavering and constant. In my professional life, I enjoy succeeding in the face of long odds, particularly when others say “it can't be done.” It makes the achievement that much sweeter.
What are your future professional aspirations? Grow Quantum to a nationally recognized brand synonymous with anaerobic digestion and food waste recycling. Expand my entrepreneurial horizon by bringing other disruptive recycling and energy technologies to market. Bring simple solutions to complex problems that the people in Connecticut are facing.
How are you involved in the community? I work with children across the state to educate them on recycling and renewable energy, including the Boys & Girls Club of Bristol, RHAM High School and the schools of Southington. I mentor at the UConn & National Science Foundation helping college engineering students gain business insight to grow conceptual designs into marketable products. I'm also a board member of the RecycleCT Foundation.
If you were governor of Connecticut for a day what is one policy you'd push to improve the state's future? I would strongly support any policy or program that made Connecticut more favorable for all sizes of business to develop and grow. Specifically, retaining our large public and private entities, and alleviating some of the regulatory and cost barriers for small to mid-size companies to thrive. An important piece of securing Connecticut's future is the ability to retain our college students once they have graduated from one of our in-state academic institutions.
List four reasons why you deserve to be a 40 Under Forty: Spearheaded the development and operation of Connecticut's first food waste-to-energy facility in Southington; one of eight such facilities in the United States. Built a brand, in Quantum, that is highly recognizable in the region for leading a recycling movement focused on diverting food waste away from landfill. My involvement and work with academic institutions in Connecticut focused on cultivating the future business and engineering leaders. As a board member for the RecycleCT Foundation, working to advance recycling education in the State.
