A major tenant and attraction at the Brass Mill Center mall that closed in September 2022 will be resurrected next week.
The mall’s 12-screen movie theater will reopen as an Apple Cinemas on April 19, according to the mall’s website.
The previous tenant, Regal Cinemas, closed as its parent company, Cineworld Group, went through a bankruptcy.
It’s unclear whether the other Apple Cinemas location in Waterbury, at 920 Wolcott St., will remain open.
In Connecticut, Apple Cinemas also has theaters in Hartford, Torrington and Simsbury. The Cambridge, Massachusetts-based chain also has two theaters in Maine, one in Massachusetts, two in New Hampshire, one in New York and one in Rhode Island.
The majority of the struggling 1.1 million-square-foot Brass Mill Center mall, and the neighboring Brass Mill Commons shopping center, were acquired by Great Neck, New York-based Kohan Retail Investment Group from Brookfield Properties in 2022 for $44.9 million.
Recently, the mall got a boost with the addition of an Ashley Homestores outlet, which opened in the former Macy’s section of the mall late last year.
