Branford’s CAS Med has new marketing v.p.

CAS Medical Systems Inc. has hired a former Covidien plc marketing officer to be vice president of sales and marketing for the Branford medical-device maker.

Matthew Herwig previously was vice president of U.S. marketing for energy based devices at Covidien Healthcare (formerly Tyco Healthcare). Friday was his first day on the job.

CAS makes infant sleep apnea monitors and noninvasive devices for measuring blood-oxygen levels in adult surgery patients.

According to the company’s filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Herwig’s base pay is $215,000 a year, plus he is eligible for cash or stock bonuses. Herwig also received options to buy 150,000 CAS shares, and was issued 25,000 shares of restricted common stock, the filing said.

He is employed “at will” with CAS, which also agreed to pay him six months’ severance if he is terminated without good cause or he resigns for good reason, the filing said.
