Connecticut towns and cities authorized 542 new housing units in March, bringing the year-to-date total to 1,717 units, according to estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.
The most units were authorized in Branford, with a total of 194, followed by 101 in Brookfield, 25 in New Haven and 15 in Milford. Only one housing permit was issued in Hartford in March, bringing the year-to-date total to three.
Of the major cities in Connecticut, Stamford has seen the most activity this year, with 409 new units, including nine that were added in March. In 2022, Stamford only added eight units.
New Haven added 163 new housing units this year. Last year, New Haven added 198 new housing units, more than any other town or city.
