Branford Fire Department said its headquarters has achieved LEED silver status from the U.S. Green Building Council.
The 31,000-square-foot, $12.5 million facility opened in 2012. It is Branford’s first LEED municipal building.
The headquarters has a geothermal heating and cooling system, roof-mounted solar panels, lighting sensors and was built with recycled materials. The building even has an organic vegetable garden.
Silver / Petrucelli + Associates of Hamden designed the headquarters and Shelton’s Turner Construction Co. built it.
