The owner of the Stony Creek Brewery is a step closer to building a waterfront boutique hotel across from his popular craft brewery in Branford.
Branford’s Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved Ed Crowley’s plans for the new hotel last week.
The 34-room hotel, to be named Tidal Lodge, would be built on the site of the former Paul’s Wire Rope & Sling Company at 4-6 Indian Neck Ave. and would include rooms with views of the Branford River tidal basin.
Crowley told the panel during a public hearing in December that the hotel will serve breakfast and lunch and will apply for a liquor license. A boardwalk is also being discussed, according to the meeting minutes, and customer parking would be under the hotel.
Crowley said last June that 30 percent of visitors who tour his destination brewery come from outside Connecticut, and many want to stay overnight.
“We are looking forward to building a destination hotel and to continue the history of awesome hotels on the waterfront in Branford,” he said Tuesday in an emailed statement.
