Bradley International nets more stimulus funding

Bradley International Airport has been awarded $3.8 million for security equipment by the Transportation Security Administration through funding made available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

The funds are to be used for the purchase of updated explosive detection systems and advanced technology X-ray units.

The new equipment will replace older equipment, streamline baggage screening, and enhance security capabilities. Approximately 200 airports have the detection system, and approximately 770 advanced technology X-ray units are in place at airports nationwide. The equipment represents the first stimulus dollars spent under TSA’s ARRA funds.

Bradley earlier this year received $8 million from the federal stimulus package toward repairing the second runway.
