Bradley Guard hangar set for $12M upgrade

The U.S. Air Force will invest $12 million to upgrade an Air National Guard hangar at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Congressmen Joe Courtney and John Larson announced.

The renovation prepares the hangar for the arrival of eight C-130H cargo planes, the congressmen said. The 103rd Airlift Wing of the Connecticut Air National Guard will transition to a C-130H mission later this year.

The eight cargo planes — the first of which will arrive this year — were assigned to Bradley in the 2013 National Defense Authorization Act, in which the Air Force sought to restructure the National Guard.

The 103rd lost it’s a-10 planes in a 2005 base closure process, and has since been flying C-21 transport aircraft.
