The first nonstop flight to Jamaica from Bradley International Airport lifted off this morning, airport officials said, and the new service will be offered year-round.
Spirit Airlines had its inaugural flight from Bradley in Windsor Locks to Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica, this morning. Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA) officials said this is the first time that a nonstop flight to Jamaica is being offered from Bradley.
The roughly four-hour flight will run four times weekly, CAA officials said.
According to the CAA, Connecticut has the fifth largest population of residents with Jamaican ancestry among all U.S. states. Per census data, more than 56,000 residents with Jamaican ancestry live in the state.
