Bradley International Airport has started a construction project to provide more parking for passengers.
The plans include expanding a surface lot located on Schoephoester Road by about 14 acres. The expansion will add more than 1,500 parking spaces, representing a 20% increase in capacity.
The construction project will be completed in the winter, according to the Connecticut Airport Authority. It includes site demolition, drainage installation, grading, new pavement, relocation of the entrance and exit plaza and the addition of LED lighting.
The expansion was made possible by the relocation of rental car services and moving Postal Road, which has been shifted east as part of the project.
Bradley says it has also recently provided new digitized signage and a multimillion-dollar parking guidance system in its parking garage.
The Authority says that it’s experiencing an increase in demand for passenger parking, and that increasing revenue from parking will help it to keep operating costs low for airlines at Bradley.
The parking is a further element of Bradley’s recent upgrades and expansion. The CAA recently completed more than $250 million worth of projects in the terminal building, including a new concourse, two new exit lanes, passenger meet and greet locations, and an expanded TSA checkpoint.
The airport says it also expects to open new dining options in the near future.
