Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport’s Harbor Yard has a new, $2.5 million center scoreboard that is said to be the largest ever in an arena that size.
The high-defintion Daktronics ProStar video-scoreboard is the centerpiece of a $3.5 million structural overhaul undertaken by 20-month-long arena operator Harbor Yard Sports and Entertainment LLC.
“These projects are the most significant improvements to Webster Bank Arena since the building opened in 2001,” said Harbor Yard Sports and Entertainment President Howard Saffan.
The arena is also debuting digital “halo boards,” which run over 800 continuous linear feet along the perimeter of the arena’s upper bowl, officials said.
ABC Sign of Bridgeport helped with the setup.
The videoboard is operated from a new Sony-designed control room in the arena.
The rectangular videoboard has two side panels and two end panels. The side panels are 30 feet wide and 15 feet high. The end panels are 13 feet wide and 10 feet high. That’s larger than the scoreboard at TD Bank arena in Boston, home of the Celtics basketball and Bruins hockey teams.
