Boston PE firm acquires E. Berlin manufacturer

Boston private equity firm Artemis Capital Partners has acquired a majority stake in East Berlin polymers maker StanChem for an undisclosed sum, the companies said.

“It’s a big investment in Connecticut,” said Paul Stenson, StanChem’s vice president of technology, sales, and marketing. “We’re going to grow the business.”

He declined to disclose terms of the deal.

Founded in 1968, StanChem produces emulsion polymers, adhesives, and specialty coatings for applications that include paints, paper and packaging, building products, and textiles. The firm also produces and markets the Albi line of flame retardant products.

StanChem has significant growth potential, said James Ward, an Artemis principal.

“We’re thrilled to partner with a management team and employees at StanChem to invest in products, people and growth,” he said.

Stenson said the investment will help the company expand research and development capabilities to deliver new products to new and existing customers and markets.

Founded in 2010, Artemis Capital Partners acquires and grows manufacturers of differentiated industrial technologies, including specialty chemicals and materials.
