After a two-month search, Hartford Business Journal has named Greg Bordonaro the new editor of the newspaper’s suite of multimedia products.
“Greg has a strong vision for the future of HBJ’s news products,” said Gail Lebert, HBJ publisher. “His leadership will strengthen our link with the business community, and his vision for the future will build new links. We are thrilled to have him in the editor’s seat.”
Bordonaro will take over July 1 for outgoing editor Norm Bell. Bell, who started as editor in 2010, will relocate to Las Vegas, where he and his wife own a home.
In his new role, Bordonaro will oversee the publication of the weekly Hartford Business Journal newspaper and the up-to-the-minute Web site, HartfordBusiness.com.
“This is an exciting and challenging time to be in the news media business,” Bordonaro said. “New technology continually changes the way readers get their news. My vision is to develop our multimedia platforms so our audience receives information they need to grow their business in central Connecticut.”
Bordonaro started working at the Hartford Business Journal in 2008 as a reporter covering health care, real estate, and banking, coming to the company from the Hartford Courant. During his time at HBJ, Bordonaro has won several awards for breaking news from the Alliance of Area Business Publications, a group of more than 70 national peer publications.
“Greg has established himself in the marketplace as a talented and trusted news reporter,” Lebert said. “He has a passion for our region and for businesses of all sizes.”
In addition to promoting Bordonaro to editor, HBJ created a new editorial management team, effective July 1.
Brad Kane will take over as managing editor. Kane will develop a social media strategy and oversee content for events and special publications such as Women In Business, Forty Under 40, and Best Places to Work in CT. Kane will remain editor of Connecticut Green Guide, HBJ’s statewide magazine focusing on sustainable business.
Kane started with HBJ in 2010, working as a reporter covering energy, manufacturing, and construction. Previously, he wrote for the Boston Globe and the Naples Daily News.
Gregory Seay will take over as HBJ’s news editor. In this new role, Seay will be a key producer for the print publication and will be responsible for compiling the various features of the newspaper. He will serve as the lead copy-editor for the publication. Seay started with HBJ in 2008, serving as Web editor of HartfordBusiness.com.
Before coming to the Hartford Business Journal, Seay worked as a business reporter and editor for the Hartford Courant from 1992 to 2007.
“We simply could not be happier about how things have turned out, and we expect great things from this newly configured editorial team,” said Joe Zwiebel, HBJ founding publisher and president. “These guys have done great work over the past many years, and we expect they will have a larger impact on the Greater Hartford business community in these new roles. Whenever you have the opportunity to promote strong candidates from within, it’s a good sign to the whole organization.”
