Bombardier Business Aircraft said its service center network team at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks will be one of seven global locations to provide sales and installations for a new in-flight wireless network launching later this year.
Bombardier plans to offer SmartSky 4G, which was first announced in 2014 and pitched as the nation’s first airborne 4G LTE-based network, on its Learjet, Challenger and Global business aircraft over the continental U.S.
SmartSky says its technology will allow passengers to stream, chat, text, call, game and videoconference during a flight.
SmartSky is taking on in-flight competitors GoGo and AT&T, aviation news website Runway Girl Network reported.
Besides Bradley, Bombardier will perform sales and installations at airports in Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Tucson and Wichita, as well as Amsterdam and Singapore.
