Boeing cites UTC unit as top supplier

Hamilton Sundstrand in Windsor Locks was named by Boeing Co. a “supplier of the year” for its work on the power systems for the commercial aircraft builder’s 787 Dreamliner.

Hamilton, a division of Hartford-based United Technologies Corp., said it was among 14 companies cited for excellence working with Boeing.

The supplier’s award in the “Pathfinder” category recognized its work on nine major systems for the Dreamliner, including the electric environmental control system, electrical power generating and start system, primary power distribution system, remote power distribution system, ram air turbine emergency power system, auxiliary power system, nitrogen generation system, fire detection and suppression system, and electric motor pump.

Hamilton also supplies the gearbox system for the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine.

The 787 program is expected to generate more than $15 billion in revenue for Hamilton Sundstrand over the program’s life.

Hamilton’s 2009 revenues were $5.6 billion.
