‘Boas-vindas’ to downtown Hartford’s second Brazilian eatery

Downtown Hartford is serving up some healthy competition for tasty Brazilian cuisine.

Last month, Churrascaria Braza, a Brazilian restaurant in Hartford’s West End, announced plans to open a third location on Constitution Plaza in the former space held by Spris.

Now, Hartford’s Brazil Grill on Park Street plans to enter the downtown market with a new restaurant called Rio Grill on Pratt Street, in space formerly occupied by Cugino’s.

Elaine Lima, the restaurant’s owner, could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday morning for details on the newly planned dining destination.

But realty broker Jeremy Felt, of SullivanHayes, said the restaurant has signed a lease to occupy 4,200 square feet of space at 54 Pratt St.

It’s welcome news to downtown Hartford’s restaurant scene, which has held steady in the last few years, despite the poor economy and high office vacancy rates.
