Blumenthal spotlights new aid available for theaters and others venues

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal was scheduled to visit Hartford’s Bushnell Performing Arts Center Friday to spotlight new pandemic aid available for theaters and other venues under the recent stimulus package.

The Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) program, designed for theaters and other venues shut down by pandemic restrictions, got $1.25 billion in new funding from the American Rescue Plan Act stimulus signed by President Joe Biden last week.

A total of $16 billion is now available under the program, in which venues can get grants up to $10 million each.

Venues can apply for SVOG grants starting in early April. The Small Business Administration is administering the SVOG program and has issued a FAQ on applying for the grants.

Venues that have received PPP funds in 2021 can also apply for SVOG grants under a provision of the American Rescue Plan, according to the Theatre Communications Group.
