Blum Shapiro Consulting Buys Two Firms

Blum Shapiro Consulting, an affiliate of West Hartford-based Blum Shapiro accounting firm, acquired TRC Health Solutions, NDS Nowak Data Systems, Inc. and several new consultants, the company said last week.

With the acquisition, Blum Shapiro Consulting has grown to 40 staff members in three states.

The new healthcare consulting group primarily serves healthcare organizations and hospitals nationwide. David A. Gladstone, a resident of Middletown, leads the healthcare consulting group of nine professionals. Gladstone was managing principal of TRC Health Solutions, and was previously a partner in Arthur Andersen’s Business Consulting practice, managing director at BearingPoint Consulting and as CFO of St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury.

The group will haveoffices in West Hartford, Fairfield, Boston and New York City.

The second merger, with NDS Nowak Data Systems, Inc., expands Blum Shapiro’s software practice by providing accounting system and management software and service solutions to middle market companies.

James Nowak, CPA, a resident of Hamden, founded NDS in 1985, which served owners and managers of companies in manufacturing, distribution, construction, retail, financial services and other industries. Nowak received a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University in 1968. He was licensed as a Certfied Public Accountant in 1972.
