Blue Back Square installs electric car stations

Two electric vehicle charging stations will be unveiled on Friday at West Hartford’s Blue Back Square, the start of a new division of the Newington Electric Co.

The two General Electric Level II charging stations will be showed at 8 a.m. Friday at the Lexicon Garage at 75 Isham Road in Blue Back Square.

Connecticut has expanded its electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the past two years, as part of an initiative launched by former Gov. M. Jodi Rell to prepare for the rollout of more electric vehicles in the marketplace.

The two Blue Back Square charging stations brings the total number of stations in Connecticut to 13 with another 15 in the planning stages. There are about 70 electric vehicles in the state, mostly the Chevrolet Volt and the Tesla Roadster.

The Blue Back Square installations come from Connecticut Electric Car, a newly formed subsidiary of Newington Electric Co. founded to specialize in charging station installations. NEC was first started in 1985 to provide specialty service for residential and commercial electric needs.

Ed Ingalls, the owner of Connecticut Electric Car, said he plans on targeting several locations for installations of charging stations, including hotels, restaurants, grocery stores, condominium complexes and tourist attractions.
